COMPANY SAYS EPA MAKING COLORADO’S WATER WORSE

A mining company is accusing the Environmen­tal Protection Agency of letting a huge volume of polluted water reach a southweste­rn Colorado river by operating a wastewater treatment plant below full capacity.

The allegation came Wednesday from Sunnyside Gold Corp., which is fighting the EPA over who should pay for a water study as part of a Superfund cleanup.

The cleanup includes the Gold King Mine, source of a 2015 spill that polluted rivers in Colorado, New Mexico and Utah.

Sunnyside owns a different mine there. The company says it isn’t liable for the area’s water pollution.

Co-defendant in global Ecstasy drug ring sentenced in Denver to federal prison.

An online drug trafficker who brought the illegal drug Ecstasy into the United States from Europe has been sentenced to 36 months in federal prison.

Leonardo Cristea, 22, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge R. Brooke Jackson, according to a Department of Justice news release Wednesday.

Cristea, a member of “ItalianMaf­iaBrussels,” or “IMB,” a black market website drug cartel, previously pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to import controlled substances.

Cristea and co-defendant Filip Lucian Simion were arrested simultaneo­usly in Bucharest, Romania, and extradited to Colorado in July and October 2016, respective­ly.

Natural gas line repair leads to 3,900 without gas service.

An “unexpected repair” on a natural gas line has led to a widespread service outage.

Atmos Energy on Tuesday temporaril­y disconnect­ed gas service to about 3,900 homes and businesses in Salida and Poncha Springs, according to the county’s office of emergency management.

Crews are working on restoring natural gas service to the area, county officials said. Service should be restored in phases, beginning Wednesday, and will be carried out over several days. Trained technician­s who are allowed access to homes and businesses will “relight” appliances. A resident or proprietor over age 18 must be present.

Man suspected of fatal stabbing at Denver business is arrested.

A man suspected of fatally stabbing a co-worker in the neck at a Denver business has been arrested. Dawaune Ellis, 24, was taken into custody on Tuesday night, according to police. Ellis is accused of stabbing 28-yearold Anthony Miles-Hollis multiple times April 5 at Sysco Denver, 5000 Beeler St., police said.

Two men sentenced to prison for a string of Denver robberies.

Two men who pleaded guilty to a string of robberies in Denver have been sentenced to prison. Alfredo Ray Garcia, 39, pleaded guilty Monday to robbery and four counts of habitual criminal sentence enhancers, according to the Denver district attorney’s office. He was sentenced to 24 years in prison. Co-defendant Angelito Arechiga, 22, pleaded guilty in February to robbery and was sentenced to five years in prison, according to a news release.
