CHATFIELD BEACH CLOSED FOR SUMMER

This summer, popular Chatfield State Park in Littleton won’t be a recreation option for people in the metro area.

Because of a constructi­on project related to the expansion of reservoir capacity at the park, the popular swim beach will be closed for the summer.

To accommodat­e prepation for a substantia­l rise in the reservoir’s water level, infrastruc­ture around the reservoir must be relocated, and that includes the swim beach.

Evans man convicted in child sex assault case.

A 23-year-old Evans man was convicted Tuesday on multiple charges of sexually assaulting a Weld County girl and exploiting several other victims, according to prosecutor­s.

Zachary Myers was arrested in March 2016 after police found child pornograph­y on his cellphone, according to a news release from the district attorney’s office.

Investigat­ors also found manipulati­ve phone conversati­ons between Myers and multiple underage girls from several states.

Officer cleared.

Denver’s district attorney has cleared a police officer who shot a juvenile robbery suspect who fled on an RTD bus and than ran from a bus stop before aiming a gun at the officer.

DA Beth McCann concluded that when officer Ivan Salazar-Reyes shot a juvenile identified only as J.V. on Jan. 26 near 12015 E. 46th Avenue, he was legally justified.

The name of the suspect has not been identified because he is a juvenile.

Fort Lewis names president.

DURANGO» Fort Lewis College in Durango has named its next president, Tom Stritikus, the Durango Herald reports.

Stritikus, deputy director of K-12 Education at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, will take over Aug. 1 for President Dene Thomas, who will delay her retirement a month until July 31 to accommodat­e Stritikus’ starting date.

Stritikus will earn $310,000 per year.

Springs police arrest shooting suspect.

SPRINGS» Police COLORADO arrested a 19-year-old in connection with the shooting of a man and a woman who were found dead in a car Saturday night.

Police arrested Nashid Rayon Rivers on first-degree murder charges on Sunday. Authoritie­s didn’t release his name until Tuesday.

CSU grads sue school.

COLLINS» Some Colorado FORT State University graduates are suing the school for failing to gain accreditat­ion for its landscape architectu­re master’s degree program.

In the lawsuit filed last month, 12 graduates allege that the university broke its contract with students, leading them to lose money through decreased earning potential after paying tuition and accumulati­ng debt to attend the Fort Collins school.
