Warrant out for stepfather of girl, 12, who is missing

Grand Junction police say a registered sex offender who is the stepfather of a 12-year-old girl reported missing Wednesday is now being sought in connection with her disappearance.

An arrest warrant for Jody Haskin, 47, was signed Thursday. He’s being sought on suspicion of second-degree kidnapping in the disappearance of Raeanna Rosencrans. An Amber alert was issued Wednesday.

“There is no doubt that a case like this is incredibly alarming and frightening to everyone involved, as well as the community affected by this incident,” said a police report released Thursday. “We are committed to following up on every lead in our efforts to bring Raeanna safely home.”

Police described the girl as developmentally delayed and medication dependent.

Raeanna was walking home from school in Grand Junction with a friend when she was abducted Wednesday by a man in a car.

The incident happened about 3 p.m. in the area of DK Road and Larry’s Meadow, according to the report.

Raeanna is 5-foot-1 and 137 pounds, with blue eyes and light brown/dark blond hair. She was wearing black jeans, a black shirt with white designs and Adidas shoes, and carrying a blackand-white backpack with Southwestern designs on it.

“Raeanna’s well-being depends on her swift and safe return home,” interim Police Chief Mike Nordine said during an afternoon news conference.

She was last seen getting into a green, boxy car with a white man in his late 40s to early 50s. The man was wearing a green buttondown shirt. He called out her name, police said. The green car was recovered in in a Walmart parking lot in Rifle, police said. It is not known which type of vehicle Haskin now is traveling in, police say.

“He is not believed to be in the area of Grand Junction any longer, and we are working to develop leads as to where he might be traveling,” the report says.

Investigators on Thursday said they believe Haskin was heading to North Dakota.

Haskin is 6 feet tall and about 215 pounds. He has brown eyes and wears glasses. Although Haskin is Raeanna’s stepfather, he has no parental rights to her.

Currently, there is also a warrant for Haskin’s arrest on a charge of sex assault on a child, the police report says.
