COSTLY VICTORY

LeMahieu, Anderson injured

- By Patrick Saunders

MIAMI» The Rockies pulled off a rare and gutsy victory at Marlins Park Friday night — and also escaped a major injury scare.

The scoreboard read Colorado 1, Miami 0 — proof that the Rockies had indeed won their third consecutive game and came away with a W for just the seventh time in 22 games at the Fish Bowl.

There also was plenty of postgame relief when starter Tyler Anderson and second baseman DJ LeMahieu confirmed that they did not suffer serious injuries.

Anderson was removed in the second inning because of dizziness and shortness of breath, but doctors checked him out and gave him a clean bill of health. Anderson emphasized that he did not suffer an irregular heartbeat. In fact, Anderson said he would work out of the bullpen in Saturday’s game if the club needs him.

“Something weird happened and I couldn’t catch my breath,” Anderson said. “But I’m fine. I think it was just a weird, one-time thing.”

LeMahieu tweaked his hamstring in the third inning when he hustled out a double and before he was picked off at second base. LeMahieu played defense in the bottom half of the third inning but did not return for the fourth.

“It’s just a little tight, but I don’t think it’s a big deal,” LeMahieu said, adding that he thinks “there’s a chance” he could play Saturday.

Colorado, 15-12, won the game on the back of right-hander Antonio Senzatela, who pitched 3M innings of relief upon replacing Anderson and also drove home Gerardo Parra with a double in the fifth for the game’s only run.

According to Stats Inc., it was the first time a Rockies relief pitcher had all of the club’s RBIs in a game.

The last time the Rockies won a 1-0 game was June 8, 2016, at the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Colorado’s bullpen finished the job, albeit with a lot of drama. Adam Ottavino gave up two hits in the eighth but coolly struck out Brian Anderson and Justin Bour to slam the door. Wade Davis picked up his 10th save in 11 chances and struck out two, but not before the Marlins got two men aboard.
