Chopper delivers Chubb’s brother

- By Gina Mizell

Who was more stressed on NFL draft night than Denver Broncos’ first-round pick Bradley Chubb? His brother, Brandon, who went to great lengths to make sure he was at AT&T Stadium for Bradley’s life-changing moment.

Brandon, who plays linebacker for the Detroit Lions, did not want to miss any of this week’s “voluntary” workouts, because he’s trying to make a good impression on new coach Matt Patricia. So he left the Lions’ facility at 12:30 p.m. Thursday and hopped on a 3:30 p.m. Delta flight to the Dallas-Fort Worth airport.

From there, after landing at about 5:45 p.m., he avoided evening rush-hour traffic by taking a private helicopter to the stadium. He landed on owner Jerry Jones’ helipad and walked into the building about 20 minutes before the Cleveland Browns were put on the clock for the first overall pick.

“I couldn’t miss this moment,” Brandon said. “I knew Brad was going to be in the first five picks. I knew he was coming off the board quick, and I wanted to be there.”

So how does one reserve a private helicopter in the Dallas area? Chubb found three possible options on Yelp and chose one that specializes in transporting people from the airport to AT&T Stadium and other prominent events in town.

“The whole two days before, I couldn’t even sleep at night,” Chubb said. “Because I was like, ‘Yo, if my flight gets delayed 30 minutes, I’m screwed. It’s not happening.’

“I’m glad it worked out, but it was stressful.”
