Responses to huge disparities in worker, CEO pay

-

Bravo to Aldo Svaldi of The Denver Post for reporting on page 1 of the Sunday edition that “CEOS in Colorado earn 94 times the median annual pay of their employees . . . . ” That finding is immoral.

Bravo to the emaciated staff of The Denver Post for bringing back the open forum. I have contributed to it in the past, at times disagreeing with the newspaper’s position, but feared the recent cuts in staff by the owner would prevent me from praising the courage of the remaining staff and articles such as the one cited above.

Keep bringing it to us! Phillip K. Tompkins, Denver

Now that you have elevated the passions of the populace over the “unfairness” of CEOS earning 94 times the pay of average workers, why don’t you compare the salaries of the CEOS with those of professional athletes? John Cogswell, Buena Vista

To remedy this absurdity, simply return to the tax system of the Eisenhower years or before. After a certain figure, tax the money beyond that at a 75 percent to 90 percent rate. A point exists after which no one can truly earn such a large sum. Those who do receive these salaries are simply in a position to take them or to demand them, ultimately denying a share to those who actually produced the wealth.

The rich will still be rich, even very rich. They will just not be obscenely, filthily, criminally rich -- or rich as oligarchs. Mack Hitch, Sterling

I couldn’t help but wonder, reading this pejorative-laced article, just how does The Denver Post stack up in this “exposé.” Why didn’t you present the surely exemplary record of the pay scales at The Post? I’m sure the publisher is paid only “slightly more” than the entry level jobs. Surely, there are only a few pay levels, aren’t there?

Anyone that feels such is the case, in the face of the blatant sanctimonious, writers, editors and management, is as naive as the vast majority of left wing employees in the upper echelon at The Denver Post.

I can’t wait to see the evidence my comments incorrectly describe The Post’s hypocrisy! Don R. Sherwood, Boulder
