DENVER MAN GETS 18 YEARS FOR MURDER
A Denver man was sentenced to 18 years in prison for fatally shooting his girlfriend’s former boyfriend on Christmas Day after the men drank together and arm-wrestled.
Phi Hoang Pham, 35, was sentenced Monday for the Dec. 25, 2015, murder of 35-year-old Cyril Kim, according to the Arapahoe County District Attorney’s Office.
On Jan. 2, Pham pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.
Kim was at his former girlfriend’s house in the 20100 block of East Dartmouth Drive in Aurora to visit his son, a child the couple had together, according to a news release. Pham lived at the home with the woman and her three children. Pham and Kim knew each other and had been friends for 10 years.
Aurora police officers, responding to a 911 call, went to the home and found Kim, who had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was pronounced dead at Parker Adventist Hospital.
Early fire restrictions for Mesa County.
Authorities in Mesa County are establishing fire restrictions early this season following two destructive wildfires.
The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel reports the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office and fire chiefs of several municipalities and fire-protection districts say Stage I fire restrictions are to go into effect Friday.
Authorities say this is the earliest imposition of fire restrictions they can recall.
Authorities say one reason behind imposing the early restrictions is to put residents and others on early notice that fireworks won’t be allowed this year.
