MAN ARRESTED IN SHOOTING

A man who allegedly fired gunshots at a woman before forcing her into a vehicle was arrested Wednesday by Englewood police. The incident unfolded about 2 p.m. in the 3600 block of South Delaware Street, police said in a news release.

Officers responded to reports of shots fired and a woman being dragged into a Mercedes. Officers spotted the Mercedes in the 4000 block of South Broadway, and a short chase ensued, according to the release. Dylan Coons, 26, was arrested on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder, kidnapping and additional charges. The victim, a 27-year-old woman who was in a “domestic relationsh­ip” with Coons, told police that the suspect fired two shots at her as she tried to run from him.

Troopers say man fleeing traffic stop might have drowned.

JUNCTION» Authoritie­s GRAND say a man who jumped into a canal while fleeing state troopers might have drowned. The man, whose name has not been released, was pulled over at the Palisade exit of Interstate 70 on Tuesday and ran away down a small embankment while troopers searched his car. Trooper Dan Chermok says the man went into the Highline Canal but had a hard time swimming. He went underwater, and troopers did not see him resurface. Investigat­ors found marijuana and at least 5 pounds of methamphet­amine in the vehicle.

UNC administra­tor named St. Cloud State president.

An administra­tor at the University of Northern Colorado is the new president of St. Cloud State University. The Minnesota State board of trustees selected Robbyn Wacker from among four finalists on Wednesday. Wacker has been at UNC since 1990. She served as provost and senior vice president from 2011 to 2017. Recently she has been in a fundraisin­g position. — Staff and wire reports
