BUCKS TO HIRE BUDENHOLZE­R

A person familiar with the search told The Associated Press that the Milwaukee Bucks have reached an agreement with Mike Budenholze­r to become the team’s next coach.

The 2015 NBA coach of the year will replace Joe Prunty, the former assistant who went 21-16 in the regular season after replacing the fired Jason Kidd in late January.

The person confirmed the agreement with the former Atlanta Hawks coach on Wednesday. The person requested anonymity because the team has not made an official announceme­nt. The deal was first reported by ESPN.

Before choosing Budenholze­r, the Bucks also considered Spurs assistant Becky Hammon, who would have been the first woman to coach an NBA team, and interviewe­d former Cavaliers coach David Blatt, former Hornets coach Steve Clifford, and current Spurs vice president and former Pelicans coach Monty Williams.

Harden, James, Davis finalists for NBA MVP award.

YORK» Houston’s NEW James Harden, Cleveland’s LeBron James and Anthony Davis of New Orleans are the finalists for the NBA’s MVP award.

Harden, who led the league in scoring, has twice been a runner-up for the award, including last year when Russell Westbrook won. James has won the MVP award four times.

The winners will be announced on June 25 in Santa Monica, Calif., during the NBA Awards show.

CU, CSU golf teams fail to advance.

The University of Colorado men’s golf team finished in seventh place in the NCAA West Regional in Stockton, Calif.

CU turned in a final-round score of 2-over-par 290, finishing with 54-hole score of 862 (2-under), 10 strokes back of fifth place, though it was much closer than that most of the day. The top five teams qualifying for the NCAA Championsh­ip Finals.

In the Kissimmee, Fla., regional, the Colorado State men’s golf team also came up short, finishing seventh with a 5-under-par 283 for the day and 16-under 848 for the tournament.

Ledecky shatters own world record in first pro event.

Katie Ledecky looked as dominant as ever in her pro debut.

She set another world record in the women’s 1,500-meter freestyle, shattering her previous mark by exactly five seconds in the IUPUI Natatorium pool.

The six-time Olympic gold medalist finished in 15:20.48, breaking her previous mark from August 2015. After winning the heat by more than 49 seconds, Ledecky had to wait another two hours to officially be crowned event champion as the remaining timed heats continued.

Oakland’s Maxwell to miss series at Blue Jays.

BOSTON» Oakland catcher Bruce Maxwell will miss a four-game series at Toronto that starts Thursday because he cannot enter Canada while awaiting sentencing in Arizona on a gun-related charge.

Athletics manager Bob Melvin said Wednesday that Maxwell will be on the restricted list during the series, then rejoin the A’s when they return to Oakland.

Maxwell was arrested in Arizona in October after a food delivery person alleged he pointed a gun at her at his Scottsdale home. Maxwell pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in April and is to be sentenced on June 4 in Maricopa County Superior Court.

Twins’ Castro out for season.

Minnesota catcher Jason Castro will miss the rest of the season following surgery to repair the meniscus in his right knee.

Castro tore his meniscus, was operated on Tuesday by Dr. Richard Steadman and had been expected to be sidelined for four-to-six weeks.

Minnesota said Wednesday that Steadman found damage to be more extensive than an MRI indicated. As a result, Steadman performed a full repair instead of a trim of the meniscus.
