Records are on the line this weekend

- By Kyle Newman

The prep state track meet runs Thursday through Saturday for all classes at Jefferson County Stadium in Lakewood. Here are three story lines to watch:

No. 1.

Four-time state champion Emily Sloan is the heavy favorite in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles. The Rock Canyon senior stormed to a state record in the 300 at last weekend’s Continental League championships, with her time of 40.77 seconds giving the Oregon commitment the second-best time in the nation in the event.

No. 2.

Expect fireworks in the two biggest classifications of girls high jump. In Class 5A, defending team champion Grandview boasts defending event champion Kylee Harr (a CU commitment) as well as teammate Alisha Davis, while Rock Canyon sophomore Riley Masten will be in the mix. And in 4A, keep an eye on Silver Creek’s Rylee Anderson (Kansas), the three-time defending champ.

No. 3.

Who will be crowned as the fastest dude in Colorado? The boys’ 100-meter dash is wide open. Fountain-Fort Carson’s Deondre Ritter holds the fastest seed time at 10.64 seconds, but Regis Jesuit’s Zion Gordon (10.67) and Cherry Creek’s Dimitri Stanley (CU football commitment, 10.70) are right on his heels.
