ONTARIO» Johnny Football HAMILTON, is huddling up again for a long-awaited comeback — in Canada.

Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel signed a two-year contract with the Hamilton Tiger-cats of the Canadian Football League on Saturday, looking to salvage his football career after a turbulent and unsuccessf­ul stay with the Cleveland Browns.

“I don’t want to wait around anymore,” Manziel said during a news conference at Tim Hortons Field, where he will play his home games this season.

The decision to head north of the U.S. border to play football ended months of speculatio­n on his possible path back to the game.

“I want a chance to get on the field and get into the locker room and get a chance to play ball again,” Manziel said. “This isn’t just a pit stop for me. I’m not coming here to get what I need to go back down to the NFL. I’ve signed into this for the long haul, for two years. I’m here to make the most of it.”

Cowboys WR Williams arrested on intoxicati­on charge. »

FRISCO, TEXAS Dallas Cowboys receiver Terrance Williams was arrested on a charge of public intoxicati­on early Saturday after police responded to an accident involving his car and found Williams riding an electric bicycle on a road near his home.

Police in the Dallas suburb of Frisco said Williams’ Lamborghin­i left a roadway and struck a light pole near the team’s practice facility around 4:45 a.m. Saturday. Police say the driver had left the scene. Officers found Williams while investigat­ing the crash.

Williams was released from jail on bond on the misdemeano­r intoxicati­on charge.

In a statement released by his attorney, Williams said an officer he had met previously arrested him without performing a sobriety test. Williams said he was returning to the scene on a scooter to meet a tow truck driver.

Chicago forward Hossa retires due to health problems.

BRATISLAVA, SLOVAKIA» Chicago Blackhawks veteran forward Marian Hossa says he’s retiring because of health issues.

In an interview with the Slovak newspaper Novy Cas, Hossa says he’s done playing hockey.

The 39-year-old missed the entire season due to a progressiv­e skin disorder and side effects of medication to treat it. He won the Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks in 2010, 2013 and 2015.

He says, “I have a contract with Chicago for the next three years, but I have to watch my health” and that makes a comeback not possible.

Basketball great Bill Russell hospitaliz­ed briefly. SEATTLE» NBA Hall of Famer Bill Russell has been released from a Seattle hospital after an overnight stay for an unknown condition.

Russell confirmed on Twitter on Saturday that he went to the hospital late Friday, but he didn’t say why.

In the lightheart­ed message, Russell says, “As my wife likes to remind me, I don’t drink enough.”

He thanked fans for their concern and appeared to dismiss reports that the hospital visit was due to heart troubles.

Nadal beats Djokovic in Italian Open. ROME» The latest installmen­t in the rivalry between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic met expectatio­ns for one tight set.

Then Nadal pulled away for a 7-6 (4), 6-3 win to reach the Italian Open final on Saturday.

In their 51st meeting but first in more than a year, Nadal’s court coverage eventually proved too much to handle for Djokovic, who is still regaining his form from a persistent right elbow injury.

Nadal’s opponent in Sunday’s final will be defending champion Alexander Zverev, who recovered from an early break in the second set to beat Marin Cilic 7-6 (13), 6-4.
