RAPIDS ROUTED FOR FIFTH LOSS IN SUCCESSION

-

YORK» David Villa had NEW two goals and an assist on “David Villa Day” and New York City FC beat the Rapids 4-0 on Saturday, extending Colorado’s losing streak to five.

It was NYCFC’S first home game after the Spanish forward scored his 400th goal in all competitions on April 29.

“It’s a tough one to take, especially coming to play in a place like this against such a tough team,” Rapids coach Anthony Hudson said. “We saw a huge amount of quality in their team. To come here and to have any chance, you have to come with a lot of strength, and we would have to be at our very best.”

NYCFC (7-2-3) opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when Yangel Herrera intercepted a clearance attempt and fed it back to Maximiliano Moralez, who connected with Villa for the finish.

Ronald Matarrita made it 2-0 in the 49th minute with a putback header, and Villa fed Moralez, who finished from the top of the box in the 56th. Villa capped the scoring, bending a right-footed shot inside the far post in the 74th minute.

Colorado dropped to 2-6-2.

“In fairness, our team seemed to be slightly different today,” said Rapid defender Deklan Wyne, “which is always going to be tough coming to a place like this playing this type of opposition.”

Added Colorado defender Tommy Smith: “Last few games have been tough. One of the toughest schedules in the league in the last few weeks. We need to make sure we pick up some points at home. Its going to be very important starting next with Portland.”
