RAPIDS GET OUTSHOT 21-2 IN FALLING 2-1 TO MONTREAL IMPACT

MONTREAL» Saphir Taider scored two goals only a minute apart early in the second half, and the Montreal Impact held on to beat the Rapids 2-1 on Saturday night for their fourth straight win.

The Impact (8-11-0) have won five of their last six games to get back into the hunt for a playoff spot in the MLS Eastern Conference.

Substitute Dominique Badji scored for the Rapids (4-12-3), who got outshot 21-2, lost their second game in a row and fell to 1-6-1 on the road.

Varner, Kraft tied at Greenbrier.

W.VA.» Harold WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, Varner shot a 4-under-par 66 on Saturday to tie second-round leader Kelly Kraft at the top entering the final round of A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier in West Virginia.

Varner had four back-nine birdies after 10 consecutiv­e pars. Kraft led by as many as four strokes but bogeyed two of the final three holes and shot 1-under 69.

Both were at 14-under 196.

Sei Young Kim sets 72-hole mark at 24 under at LPGA Classic.

ONEIDA, WIS.» Sei Young Kim shot an 8-under 64 in the third round of Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic to tie the 54-hole record of 24-under and take a commanding eight-stroke lead.

Kim, who had a 63 on Thursday and a 65 on Friday, got rolling with an eagle on No. 3 and added six birdies. A birdie on No. 16 tied Annika Sorenstam’s 24-under at the Mizuno Classic in Japan in 2003.

Ex-coach: Former NBA player Tyler Honeycutt dies in suicide.

LOS ANGELES» A former coach and family friend says onetime Sacramento Kings and UCLA basketball player Tyler Honeycutt was found dead after a standoff with Los Angeles police.

Bort Escoto, who coached Honeycutt at Sylmar High School, told the Los Angeles Times the player’s mother called him early Saturday and said her son took his own life.

The Los Angeles Police Department said it responded Friday afternoon to a report of a man with a gun and during the initial encounter, the suspect fired a shot out of a residence and officers returned fire.

Family of Ohio State doctor says it’s cooperatin­g in probe. COLUMBUS, OHIO» The family of a former Ohio State University team doctor accused by athletes of sexual misconduct says it is “shocked and saddened” by the allegation­s and is cooperatin­g with the school’s independen­t investigat­ion.

The Columbus Dispatch in a story published online Saturday said the statement was emailed by Scott Strauss. He’s the son of the late Dr. Richard Strauss, who killed himself in 2005 at age 67. The statement said Strauss’ family learned from news reports about the allegation­s that athletes were fondled by Strauss during medical examinatio­ns. The allegation­s date back to the 1970s.

The statement said “along with the alleged victims, our family seeks the truth.”

Arizona Cardinals GM apologizes after DUI arrest. ARIZ.»

CHANDLER, Arizona Cardinals general manager Steve Keim apologized for what he calls “incredibly poor judgment and inexcusabl­e actions” that resulted in a Fourth of July DUI arrest in a Phoenix suburb.

The Cardinals said Saturday the team was gathering informatio­n and would handle the matter “appropriat­ely and in accordance with all league policies as well as within the legal system.”

Chandler police say Keim was arrested early Wednesday morning after a traffic stop and was released from custody later in the day. They did not release further details.

In a statement, Keim said that he failed to meet NFL standards of behavior and that he accepts full responsibi­lity for his actions.
