FRUITA BULL RIDER DIES AT WYO. RODEO
WYO.» A memorial service RAWLINS, was scheduled for today for a Colorado bull rider who suffered fatal injuries while competing in a Wyoming rodeo.
The father of Jason Blasdel of Fruita says his son was injured July 7 while competing at the Platte River Rodeo in Saratoga, Wyo.
Paul Zamora, the coroner in Carbon County, Wyo., told the Rawlins Times that Blasdel suffered internal bleeding and died at a hospital on July 8. He was 30.
Joe Blasdel told The Daily Sentinel of Grand Junction that his son loved the sport he had competed in since he was 8 but was planning on stepping away from it this year.
Jason Blasdel is survived by his wife, Heather, and two daughters, ages 6 and 2.
The memorial service is set for 5 p.m. today at Victory Life Church in Fruita.
Former police officer sentenced for assault. GEORGETOWN» A former police officer has been given a probationary sentence after pleading guilty to assaulting a man he arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Jon Geiger pleaded guilty July 10 to misdemeanor harassment for the October 2016 assault on a Georgetown man he arrested.
Court records say Geiger was completing paperwork when the victim entered an unlocked holding cell and began banging the door open and shut.
Jail cameras showed Geiger forcibly removed the man from the holding cell and placed him in a wrist lock against the wall.
Judge Cynthia Jones gave Geiger a 60-day suspended jail sentence and placed him on probation for a year. She said the conviction meets a prosecution goal that Geiger no longer be able to work as a peace officer in Colorado.
Woman accused of stealing $500,000 from dental office. DURANGO» A woman is accused of embezzling more than half a million dollars from the dental office where she worked.
The Durango Herald reports 49year-old Robin Bernazzani has been charged with felony theft for allegedly stealing the money from Dental Associates of the Southwest over a six-year period.
Investigators say she stole the money through such methods as writing checks to herself or using a doctor’s credit cards to pay for personal bills and online shopping.
Court records show Bernazzani and her lawyer went to the dental offices on May 1 to confess.
