Officers show off their dance moves

- By Trevor Reid

Greeley police patrol the streets, enforce the laws and … dance.

Following a national law enforcement trend, the “lip sync challenge,” Greeley police posted a video Friday morning of more than a dozen officers and staff lip syncing and dancing to Maroon 5’s “Moves Like Jagger” and Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off.” Greeley Mayor John Gates and City Manager Roy Otto make guest appearances in the video as well.

Greeley police officer Rebecca Ries, part of the department’s Neighborhood Action Team, organized the video. The Neighborhood Action Team is responsible for the department’s community outreach, including programs like Santa Cops. Ries operates the department’s social media pages and noticed a lot of people requesting Greeley police take part in the lip sync challenge.

The video starts with Ries and officer Brad Luebke outside the Greeley Police Department, 2875 10th St. They break out into dance inside the halls of the department and are joined by Chief Mark Jones.

Ries and Luebke then pass it over to officer Brock Little — or as Ries called him, “the officer with the moves.”

Ries said it took some pleading to get Little to show off his moves, but she knew he “has the best moves.”

Greeley E-media Specialist Bryan said Ries and Luebke did the choreography for the video, but a lot of it was decided on the spot.

An officer twirling a baton with police tape attached during “Shake It Off” was a complete afterthought, for example. A few more pieces of the video were planned, but police were called to other incidents during filming, Bean said.

“(The filming) was very silly,” Ries said. “We might release a blooper reel here in the next couple weeks.”
