MAN WITH KNIFE HURTS 10 ON BUS

BERLIN» A man armed with a kitchen knife attacked passengers Friday on a crowded city bus in northern Germany before being overpowere­d and arrested, authoritie­s said. Ten people were injured, three of them seriously. Authoritie­s had no immediate informatio­n on the assailant’s motive for the afternoon attack on a city bus in Luebeck, near the Baltic coast northeast of Hamburg. Investigat­ors found a flammable substance in a backpack aboard the bus but no explosives.

Remains of eight victims identified in Canada serial killer case.

Police in Toronto say the remains of all eight known victims of an alleged serial killer have now been identified. Authoritie­s previously identified remains of seven victims of suspected killer Bruce McArthur. Inspector Hank Idsinga told reporters Friday that the remains of the eighth were confirmed after a recent search near the property of McArthur.

U.S.: Security Council united on denucleari­zing North Korea.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo declared Friday that the U.N. Security Council is united on the need for the fully verified denucleari­zation of North Korea, and he urged all countries — especially Russia and China — to strictly enforce U.N. sanctions to achieve that goal. Pompeo told reporters after briefing members of the U.N.’s most powerful body that President Donald Trump “remains upbeat about the prospects for denucleari­zation” following his summit in Singapore with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. “So do I, as progress is happening,” Pompeo added.

At least 90 sickened in Salmonella outbreak linked to raw turkey.

At least 90 people have been sickened across the United States amid a Salmonella outbreak that has been traced to raw turkey products, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The CDC said it is investigat­ing the multistate outbreak in which raw turkey from “a variety of sources” was contaminat­ed with Salmonella Reading, leading to infections in 26 states.

The highest number of cases has been reported in Minnesota, where at least 13 people have become ill — followed by Illinois, New York and Texas, according to the agency.

James Gunn was fired Friday as director of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” because of old tweets that recently emerged where he joked about subjects like pedophilia and rape.

Gunn has been writer and director of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise from the start, taking an obscure Marvel Comics title about a group of multicolor­ed misfits and turning it into a space opera decked with comedy and retro music that made Chris Pratt a major movie star.
