IGINLA TO MAKE IT OFFICIAL: HE’S DONE

ALBERTA» Jarome Iginla will CALGARY, officially announce his NHL retirement Monday in Calgary.

The Flames announced the decision in a statement Wednesday.

The face of the Calgary Flames for more than a decade and a half, the 41-year-old winger didn’t play in the NHL this past season. He suited up for the Los Angeles Kings for his final 19 games in 2017, after playing more than 2½ seasons with the Avalanche.

Iginla played 20 NHL seasons, finishing with 625 goals, 675 assists, 1,300 points and 1,040 penalty minutes in 1,554 games. He had 525 goals and 570 assists with Calgary from 1996 to 2013. The six-time all-star is the franchise leader in goals, points and games.

Avs name Cronin as Eagles coach.

The Avalanche announced Greg Cronin is the new head coach of the organizati­on’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Colorado Eagles.

Also, Aaron Schneeklot­h and Ryan Tobler, who spent the past two seasons as the Eagles’ head coach and assistant coach, respective­ly, will remain on the coaching staff as Cronin’s assistants. Ryan Bach also will stay as goaltendin­g coach.

Wild, Zucker agree to terms. The

Minnesota Wild agreed to terms with left wing Jason Zucker on a five-year, $27.5 million contract. Zucker, 26, had 33 goals and 31 assists in 82 games while leading the team with seven game-winning goals and 54 takeaways last season, all career highs. He will carry a $5.5 million annual salary cap hit through the 2022-23 season.

Top wrestler Schultz going to ASU.

Ponderosa senior Cohl Schultz, already a three-time state champion and a cadet world champion, announced he’s committed to Arizona State via his Twitter on Tuesday night. Schultz won the 220-pound title as a freshman and sophomore before dominating his way to the heavyweigh­t crown via an undefeated campaign last year. This winter, he’s the heavy favorite to win again and become the state’s first four-time state champ above 200 pounds.

CoBank Colorado open postponed.

The CoBank Colorado Open postponed Round 1 until Friday because of a storm Wednesday night that flooded parts of Green Valley Ranch Golf Club. The championsh­ip will be shortened to 54 holes. The 36-hole cut will be made upon the completion of Saturday’s Round 2, with the final round held Sunday. Green Valley Ranch Golf Club will be closed for repair and restoratio­n Thursday.

Rams to host three early afternoon games.

COLLINS» Colorado FORT

State announced the kickoff times for three home games, all of them early afternoon starts. The Illinois State game on Sept. 22 will kick off at 1 p.m., the New Mexico game Oct. 13 at 2 p.m. and the home finale with Utah State on Nov. 17 at noon.

Triple Crown winner Justify retires.

CALIF.» Triple Crown winner DEL MAR,

Justify was retired from racing because of fluid in his left front ankle. Trainer Bob Baffert and Justify’s owners said caution over the horse’s ankle condition made it impossible to tell if he would be healthy enough to race by the fall.

CC unveils proposal for hockey arena.

SPRINGS» Colorado College COLORADO has unveiled a proposal to build a 3,000-seat, on-campus arena that would be the home of its hockey team. The Edward J. Robson Arena, if approved, would mean for the first time in the program’s history, which began in 1938, the Tigers would be able to play their games on campus.

Report: Nassar assaulted in prison.

Larry Nassar’s attorneys say the disgraced former sports doctor was assaulted within hours of being placed in the general population at the federal prison in Arizona where he is serving a 60-year sentence for child pornograph­y possession. — Denver Post staff and wire reports
