Love fruits and veggies? Veg out at VegFest Colorado on July 28 and 29 at FirstBank Center (11450 Broomfield Lane) in Broomfield. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day, the “green” (in more ways than one) event includes seminars, exhibits, cooking demos, kids’ activities, food samples and more. Attendees will learn from world-renown experts on health, diet, environmental issues, animal rights and about the many advantages of a plant-based lifestyle. Parking is free. STATE OF MIND
On Aug. 1, 1876, President Grant made Colorado the Centennial State. Celebrate Colorado’s birthday with music, dancing, performances and free admission at History Colorado Center on Colorado Day, Aug. 1, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Make adobe bricks, watch trick-performing pigs and meet the creators of the Postcard Colorado and Self-Preservation art installations. Families will enjoy exploring the museum’s exhibits, including LEGOrado, Zoom In: The Centennial State in 100 Objects and Play Ball! A Celebration of America’s Game. GOLDEN NIGHTS
As many summer film series are wrapping up, the city of Golden is just getting started. It hosts a free Movies & Music In The Park series at Parfet Park (10th St. and Washington Ave.) each Friday night in August. Bands perform at 7 p.m. and the featured movie starts at dusk on a big inflatable screen. Here’s the line-up: Aug. 3, “A Wrinkle in Time”; Aug. 10, “Beauty and the Beast” (2017); Aug. 15, “Coco”; and Aug. 22, “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” Bring a picnic or buy food, including pizza, ice cream, popcorn and drinks, from local vendors. Blankets or low-slung chairs are encouraged. If you need to sit up higher, organizers suggest you park yourself on the edge of the crowds.
