Keenum gets full approval from targets of his passes

- By Ryan O’Halloran

The Broncos’ season opener against Seattle is six weeks away, and the nonpadded practice meant very little physical play by the defensive backs.

But the passing game, so full of uncertainty the previous two years, has had two positive days in training camp. Case Keenum and the team’s receivers, particularly veterans Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders look insync.

“We got our quarterback,” Sanders said after Sunday’s workout. “That’s one question that we can check off. We got our quarterback, and it’s all about putting that work in. We got a guy that’s the leader of this team and wants to be the leader of this team.”

Said Broncos coach Vance Joseph: “Case, D.T. and Emmanuel worked all summer, so that timing is almost exact — not there yet.”

It sure looked good during the second practice of camp.

The Broncos’ media policy prohibits the reporting of individual quarterback statistics (snaps played and completions/attempts). But the offense is humming.

“We have a lot of talent,” Keenum said Saturday. “It’s about finding the right guys, getting them in the right spot and getting it to the right guy on time.”

Joseph started team work with a hurry-up drill. The highlight of Keenum’s sixplay sequence was a playaction fake and a dart to Thomas, who ran a quick slant.

During the opening 7on-7 period, Keenum completed four straight passes, first to rookie DaeSean Hamilton, then two to Thomas and another to Sanders.
