The Denver Post

Not my intent, but point well taken

ORe: Tone down the rhetoric,” July 28 column uch! Kelly Maher’s criticism is well taken by me with regard to the tone of my letter to The Post. I don’t encourage violence, and I don’t support the death penalty. Perhaps my reference to the Rosenbergs missed the point, especially if people are not aware of how the Rosenberg trial came about and concluded.

My comment was intended to highlight the vastly different standards to which this president is held (or not held), regardless of the many circumstances uncovered by the FBI which indicate his definitely questionable alliances with enemies of the U.S. Trump routinely speaks publicly in an ugly manner, calling people (including public figures) rapists, criminal, unpatriotic, and all manner of vile adjectives — without proof — while praising the likes of various despots.

There rarely seems to be much attempt to rein him in and even lawsuits against him are routinely discharged or languish with no action taken.

I do believe this president’s actions and his alliances with enemy foreign powers, especially meetings held in “private,” are matters of grave worry. While perhaps not yet in the legal arena of treasonable actions — covered in another oped piece published by The Post — he definitely crosses the line in a colloquial sense. I have been gratified to see pundits on some of the cable channels questioning his actions and calling for pushback by elected officials. I worry that our country will find itself in the position of too little, too late.

Interestingly, after my letter was published, I received many phone calls of the private, outof-area, and no-phone-number displayed variety, and some voicemail messages left by the callers acusing me of suffering from Trump Deraingement Syndrome. I have since learned some Trump supporters use this term vilifying people who don’t support Trump.

Again, the rules of behavior for people supporting Trump seem to be very much different than that of non-supporters.
