Broncos left tackle Garett Bolles and inside linebacker Brandon Marshall were unable to finish Monday’s practice because of injuries, but both participated in the afternoon walkthrough.

According to coach Vance Joseph, Bolles “took a shot to the chin,” during an 11-on-11 play and Marshall suffered a “minor, minor,” wrist injury.

Because the injury happened at the far end of the field, a cart was used to take Bolles near the locker room, which he walked into on his own. Bolles was evaluated for a head injury but worked at his usual spot during the hour-long walkthrough.

Marshall was injured later in the morning practice. “He’s OK,” Joseph said. Not practicing at all were tight end Jeff Heuerman (knee soreness) and cornerback Marcus Rios (sore hip). Cornerback Tramaine Brock (hamstring) did not take part in the walkthrough.

Of Heuerman, who has worked with the starters, Joseph said: “No concern. Just being smart for the long haul.”

Cyrus Kounandjio took over Bolles’ spot at left tackle with the first unit. If Bolles is held out of Tuesday’s padded practice, Kounandjio would work with the starters.

“He had a good offseason and he’s a big man (325 pounds) but he came (back) in great shape,” Joseph said. “He’s been an NFL starter (eight games). We’ve got major competition at every position and he fits in that (group).”

In addition to the injured players, Joseph was asked about receiver Carlos Henderson, who has not reported to camp yet. Joseph said he has spoken to Henderson.

“Obviously, he’s having some family issues he’s working through,” Joseph said. “It’s really his time-line. He can return anytime he gets ready to return. It’s on him. His (teammates) are supporting him and the coaches are supporting him. We’re looking forward to having him back. We’ve had some conversations about other things than football. He’s not ready for football so we’re not talking about football a lot.”
