A domestic violence suspect sought by Arapahoe County deputies in the fatal shooting of a man and the shooting of a woman Thursday morning apparently took his own life in an apartment as law enforcement closed in on him.

Investigators had been searching for 28-year-old Anthony Angel Darby, for the shooting and domestic violence, which happened about 8:30 a.m. in the 2100 block of South Clinton Street. His vehicle was found at an apartment complex near Yosemite Street and I-225 in Denver, the sheriff’s office said.

“As a tactical team was preparing to approach the vehicle, the suspect appeared, saw law enforcement officers, and fled to a nearby apartment,” a news release said. Deputies and officers surrounded the apartment and went inside about 6 p.m. to find the suspect dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, the sheriff’s office said.

The shooting happened about 8:31 a.m. in the 2100 block of South Clinton Street, more than four hours after deputies were called to the same home on a domestic disturbance call.

Darby was married to a woman who lived in a home in the block where the shots were fired Thursday morning. The woman filed for divorce May 4, according to District Court records.

The male victim was pronounced dead inside the apartment where the shooting happened, said Julie Brooks, a sheriff’s spokeswoman. The female gunshot victim remained in a hospital Thursday night.
