D-BACKS’ LAMB TO HAVE SEASON-ENDING SURGERY

PHOENIX» Arizona Diamondbac­ks third baseman Jake Lamb will have left shoulder surgery and miss the remainder of the season.

Lamb said Thursday the damage to his rotator cuff did not cause pain, but it limited his ability to swing a bat. He is hoping to be back by spring training in 2019.

The 27-year-old injured his shoulder diving for a groundball against the Chicago Cubs and was placed on the 10-day disabled list.

Lamb was an all-star in 2017 and finished the season with 30 home runs and 105 RBIs. He had six homers and 31 RBIs with a .222 average through 56 games during an injury-plagued 2018 season.

Giants’ Sandoval out for the season.

PHOENIX» San Francisco Giants infielder Pablo Sandoval will miss the remainder of the season after tearing his right hamstring while sliding.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Thursday that the 2012 World Series MVP has a significan­t tear requiring surgery. Sandoval was injured while sliding into home plate Sunday against San Diego.

The 31-year-old Sandoval was hitting .248 with nine homers and 40 RBIs. He played first and third base during his second stint with San Francisco.

Former Mets pitcher Marcos Molina gets drug suspension.

YORK» Freeagent NEW pitcher Marcos Molina has been suspended for the rest of the season following a positive test for the performanc­e-enhancing substance Clostebol. Molina was released from the New York Mets’ Double-A Binghamton farm team on July 14. The usual penalty for a first violation is an 80-game suspension. In Molina’s case, an agreement was reached between MLB and the players associatio­n for the lesser penalty.

Angels’ Trout misses game with bruised right wrist. FLA.»

Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout missed a 4-2 loss to Tampa because of a bruised right wrist. Trout got hurt while sliding during a stolen-base attempt of third in the first inning of Wednesday night’s 7-2 defeat to the Rays. Trout had X-rays on Wednesday, and an MRI was planned. A two-time AL MVP who turns 27 next week, Trout is hitting .309 with 30 homers, 60 RBIs and 21 stolen bases in 109 games.
