OHIO STATE TURNS TO FIRM TO INVESTIGAT­E MEYER’S ACTIONS

OHIO» Ohio State will rely COLUMBUS, on an outside law firm to investigat­e what coach Urban Meyer knew and did about domestic abuse accusation­s against a former assistant, a process expected to be completed within two weeks, the university said Sunday night.

Ohio State said in a release that a trustees’ committee formed to coordinate the investigat­ion had an initial meeting and has hired a firm to conduct the probe of Meyer, who says he followed proper protocol when informed of a 2015 abuse allegation against assistant Zach Smith.

Mary Jo White of the national firm Debevoise & Plimpton is leading the investigat­ion, the university said. She’s a former federal prosecutor and a former chairwoman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange.

Any decisions resulting from the investigat­ion will be made by Ohio State president Michael Drake in consultati­on with university trustees, the statement said.

Meyer was put on paid leave last week amid questions about what he knew and did about accusation­s of abuse made against Smith, who was fired July 24 after his ex-wife sought a restrainin­g order against him. The couple divorced in 2016.

Niners’ Sherman to miss a week.

Richard Sherman will miss the next week of training camp and the 49ers’ preseason opener after straining a hamstring in practice Friday.

“We’re definitely going to rest him at least a week,” 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said Saturday. “We don’t think it should be long term. It’s Grade 1, it’s a little higher than we expected so we got to be careful with that.”

Colts OT Castonzo may sit a game.

IND.» Andrew Luck could WESTFIELD, be missing his blind-side protector in Thursday night’s preseason opener at Seattle.

Left tackle Anthony Castonzo did not practice Sunday and coach Frank Reich says he is expected to miss “some time” after apparently reinjuring his right hamstring in Friday night’s practice.

Castonzo was injured initially during workouts between the end of Indy’s scheduled offseason workouts and the start of training camp. He was activated from the non-football injury list Wednesday.

Packers OT Bakhtiari carted off.

WIS.» Green Bay Packers GREEN BAY, left tackle David Bakhtiari was taken off the field on a cart Saturday, dampening the spirits at Family Night at Lambeau Field.

Former University of Colorado star Bakhtiari walked to the cart with his left shoe removed.

Bakhtiari was named a secondteam all-pro each of the last two seasons, the first Packers tackle to earn back-to-back all-pro accolades since Hall of Famer Forrest Gregg.

Browns sending Coleman to Bills.

CLEVELAND» The Cleveland Browns agreed to trade disappoint­ing wide receiver Corey Coleman to the Buffalo Bills for a draft pick, a source said.

Behanan arrested for drugs, gun.

KY.» Chane Behanan, a LOUISVILLE, member of Louisville’s 2013 men’s basketball national championsh­ip team, was arrested on charges of possessing marijuana and receiving a stolen gun.

Behanan, 25, was arrested Saturday night with three other men after a traffic stop. Louisville police spokesman Dwight Mitchell said officers smelled marijuana in the vehicle and noticed drug residue on Behanan’s lap in the back seat. Mitchell says a stolen AK-47-style rifle was found next to him.

A source says the Cleveland Cavaliers will acquire forward Sam Dekker in a trade from the Los Angeles Clippers.
