ASTROS DRAW LINE REGARDING OSUNA

- — The Associated Press

» Roberto Osuna is LOS ANGELES getting a second chance with the Astros. They also made it clear they won’t give him another one.

The all-star closer met his new Astros teammates Sunday and addressed the club for 10 minutes in a closed-door meeting after completing a 75-game suspension for violating Major League Baseball’s domestic violence policy.

The defending World Series champions acquired Osuna on Monday in a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays while he was still serving his suspension. The reliever was arrested and charged with assaulting his girlfriend May 8 in Toronto. Few details have been made public and the next court date in the case is scheduled for Sept. 5.

“We believe that Roberto will not let us down,” the Astros said in a statement Sunday. “If there is any type of issue in the future, we will take immediate and decisive action — it will not be tolerated.”

A’s pick up Nats’ Kelley.

» Shawn Kelley OAKLAND, CALIF. was acquired by the Athletics for international slot money from the Nationals, who no longer wanted the reliever after he slammed his glove to the ground and glared into Washington’s dugout during a game.

The Nationals also sent cash to the A’s in the swap.

He was designated for assignment by Washington on Wednesday, a day after his outburst while pitching in the ninth inning of a 25-4 win over the Mets.

Cards acquire RHP Ross.

The Cardinals claimed right-hander Tyson Ross off waivers from the Padres. The 31-year-old Ross is 6-9 with a 4.45 ERA in 22 starts this season. He will join the team during its series in Miami.

Astros’ Springer injured.

» All-star outfielder George Springer left Houston’s game against the Dodgers after injuring his left thumb trying to steal second base in the third inning Sunday.

Springer exited with discomfort in his thumb following a headfirst dive into the bag. He was thrown out by Dodgers catcher Yasmani Grandal.

It’s unclear how long the 2017 World Series MVP might be sidelined.

Lyles joins Brewers.

The Brewers announced they had claimed righthander Jordan Lyles off waivers from the Padres.

The 27-year-old Lyles, who pitched for the Rockies from 2014 into the 2017 season, is 2-4 with a 4.29 ERA in 24 appearances, including eight starts, this season.

Lyles signed a one-year, $750,000 deal with the Padres to start the season. He has a $3.5 million team option left on his contract for 2019.

“Poppycock,” says Scioscia.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia reached deep into his vocabulary to describe a report saying he’ll step down after this season.

“Poppycock,” Sciocsia said, using a dated term for “nonsense.”

A day after The Athletic reported that Scioscia is expected to end his 19-year run with the Angels in October, the manager strongly dismissed the report.

On Saturday night, longtime baseball writer Ken Rosenthal, citing unnamed major-league sources, reported that Scioscia and the Angels had reached a mutual decision to part ways after this season.
