Television writer/producer Lee Aronsohn (“The Big Bang Theory,” “Two and a Half Men”) tracked down the scattered members of one of Boulder’s most influential and elusive bands in the hope that, 40 years after they broke up, he could get them to play one last show.

The chronicle of the resulting reunion, the documentary “40 Years in the Making: The Magic Music Movie,” opens tonight at the Sie FilmCenter in Denver.

After the 7:20 p.m. show, Magic Music band member Chris Daniels (of Chris Daniels & the Kings) will be answering audience questions.

Then, on Aug. 17, Magic Music is scheduled to perform at the Bluegrass festival in Lyons from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Later that night, band members will be on hand for audience questions and will perform following the film’s 7:30 p.m. screening at The Sie FilmCenter.

Other members of the band through the years were George Cahill, Will Luckey, Kevin Milburn, Rob Galloway, Bill Makepeace and Lynn Poyer.

Aronsohn knew of the group because he attended the University of Colorado during Magic Music’s brief heyday in the early ’70s.
