BODY FOUND IN HOME, POLICE TREATING CASE AS HOMICIDE

Aurora police have opened a homicide investigat­ion after a man’s body was found in an Aurora home Monday morning.

According to a news release, at about 7:29 a.m., officers responded to a report of a suspicious occurrence at 12041 E. Harvard Ave. When they arrived, they found an unresponsi­ve male inside the home. He was declared dead at the scene.

The Aurora Major Crimes/Homicide Unit is investigat­ing the incident as a homicide.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office pending positive identifica­tion and the notificati­on of next of kin.

Springs police suspect child abuse after monthold child hospitaliz­ed with broken leg.

Colorado Springs police are investigat­ing a possible child abuse case involving a 31dayold infant who was taken to Memorial Central with a fractured femur, police report.

Hospital medical workers called police at around 11 p.m. Sunday, according to a police report.

Authoritie­s also called the El Paso County Department of Human Services, which is now doing its own investigat­ion.

Detectives from the department’s Crimes Against Children are in vestigatin­g the injury.

Teachers union endorses Polis for governor after snub in primary.

The Colorado Education Associatio­n endorsed U.S. Rep. Jared Polis in the governor’s race on Monday.

Support from the 35,000member teachers union came after it endorsed Cary Kennedy, a former state treasurer, during the Democratic primary. In addition, an independen­t group calling itself Teachers for Kennedy ran ads criticizin­g both Polis and another Democratic candidate, Mike Johnston.

But Polis won the nomination and is now running against Republican State Treasurer Walker Stapleton to succeed Gov. John Hickenloop­er.
