Police say drugs are found at day care, toddler rescued
Colorado Springs police rescued a crying toddler and arrested a babysitter who operated a day care and allegedly stocked the home with a large assortment of illegal street drugs and prescription medication, including methamphetamine, black tar heroin and oxycodone.
Anna Brimm was arrested Friday on suspicion of second-degree kidnapping, child abuse, drug dealing, criminal possession of a financial device and prohibited possession of a gun.
Colorado Springs also arrested Dirk Kilgore on suspicion of attempting to influence a public official.
On Friday evening, parents of the 2-year-old boy went to the Tiny Toes day care in the 2000 block of Warwick Lane to pick up their son, but when they arrived they were unable to find Brimm or their child, according to police. The parents called 911.
Police arrived at the home at 7:27 p.m. and discovered that Brimm, who had active arrest warrants for felony and misdemeanor charges, was operating the day care center under the alias of Sarah Richmond. The child’s parents contacted Brimm by text and learned their son was still inside the home.
Officers tried but failed to contact Brimm. They “made announcements” into the home and after an hour Kilgore walked out of the home carrying the boy. Twenty minutes later Brimm surrendered to police.
“The two year old was wide-eyed, shaking and had tears in his eyes,” according to a Colorado Springs police report.
Detectives executed a search warrant on the home and found a large amount of drug paraphernalia, the report says. They obtained a second search warrant for illegal drugs and found $35,000 worth of street drugs and prescription drugs, $2,163 in cash and a Sig Sauer P250 40-caliber handgun.
During the search, police found 12.6 grams of methamphetamine, 7.3 grams of brown heroin, 28.2 grams of black tar heroin and 1.3 grams of cocaine. Police found 550 prescription drugs “packaged and ready to sell,” including methadone, adderall, alprazolam, tramadol and oxycodone.
Police are asking that any other parents who took their children to the Tiny Toes day care to contact them.
