L.A.’S JANSEN PLANS TO PLAY IN A FEW WEEKS

- — Kyle Newman, The Denver Post — The Associated Press

Rockies RHP German Marquez (9-9, 4.69 ERA) at Astros RHP Justin Verlander (11-6, 2.19), 6:10 p.m., ATTRM; 850 AM

Marquez is making his debut against the Astros, so he’ll have the element of unfamiliarity on his side against the defending world champions. The right-hander has turned in three straight quality starts, and if Marquez can get off on the right foot during the first inning — a frame in which he has given up six home runs and has a 10.17 ERA this season — his chances of keeping his momentum rise dramatically. Meanwhile, Colorado faces a tough task in dealing with one of the generation’s best hurlers in Verlander, who was blasted by the Mariners in his last start for six runs in two innings, including three longballs. Colorado is hitting a collective .197 (13for-66) against the righthander. Wednesday: Rockies LHP Tyler Anderson (6-4, 3.94 ERA) at Astros RHP Gerrit Cole (10-4, 2.61), 6:10 p.m., ATTRM

Thursday: Rockies RHP Jon Gray (9-7, 4.81) at Braves RHP Julio Teheran

(8-7, 4.37), 5:30 p.m., ATTRM

Friday: Rockies LHP Kyle Freeland (10-7, 3.02) at Braves LHP Sean Newcomb (10-5, 3.40), 5:35 p.m., ATTRM

» Dodgers closer LOS ANGELES Kenley Jansen expects to have a second heart surgery in the offseason but is confident he’ll be able to come off the disabled list within the next few weeks.

The all-star reliever, out since Thursday with an irregular heartbeat, rejoined the Dodgers when they returned home Monday and threw a light bullpen. He plans to throw bullpens again Wednesday and Friday.

The 30-year-old Jansen is scheduled to be re-examined by his physicians next Monday. Jansen said it is likely that he’ll need another ablation procedure on his heart after the season — the right-hander had a similar operation in 2012.

When he was placed on the disabled list last week, it was projected Jansen would miss four to six weeks.
