BADGERS WR CEPHUS CHARGED, SUSPENDED

WIS.» Wisconsin wide receiver MADISON, Quintez Cephus was charged with felony sexual assault Monday, accused of misconduct involving two women at his apartment last April.

Cephus, a 20-year-old junior from Macon, Ga., was suspended by the team shortly after he was charged with third-degree sexual assault and second-degree sex assault of an intoxicate­d victim. The charges were filed by the Dane County district attorney and Madison police said Cephus is accused of assaulting the two women April 22.

Cephus said he was taking a leave of absence from the team Saturday, posting a tweet that he believed prosecutor­s intended to file criminal charges against him stemming from an incident in April involving what he called a “consensual relationsh­ip.”

Cephus is healthy again after breaking his right leg last November. He led the team in 2016 with six touchdown catches despite breaking his right leg last November.

Gophers go with freshman QB.

MINNEAPOLI­S» Minnesota has tabbed true freshman walk-on Zack Annexstad as the starting quarterbac­k to open the season.

Gophers coach P.J. Fleck announced after practice Monday that Annexstad will be behind center on Aug. 30 against New Mexico State. Fleck said he’s not planning a rotation between Annexstad and redshirt freshman Tanner Morgan.

Louisville loses RB Little.

KY.» Louisville said redshirt LOUISVILLE, sophomore Tobias Little will probably miss the 2018 season after injuring his knee in practice.

The 6-foot, 248-pound Atlanta native had 27 yards rushing on nine carries and one reception for 24 yards last season.

QB Patterson to start for Michigan.

MICH.» No. 14 Michigan ANN ARBOR, will start quarterbac­k Shea Patterson in the opener at No. 12 Notre Dame.

Coach Jim Harbaugh made the announceme­nt. He had earlier said Patterson was simply one of four quarterbac­ks competing to take the first snap, along with Brandon Peters, Dylan McCaffrey of Valor Christian High School and Joe Milton.

Flacco, Ravens ruin Luck’s Indy homecoming.

INDIANAPOL­IS» Joe Flacco threw a touchdown pass in the first half, Lamar Jackson added another in the second half and the Baltimore Ravens ruined quarterbac­k Andrew Luck’s Indianapol­is homecoming by topping the Colts 20-19.

Wickens to have spinal surgery.

PA.» IndyCar driver Robert ALLENTOWN, Wickens will have surgery for a spinal injury suffered in a crash at Pocono Raceway.

IndyCar said in a statement the 29-year-old Canadian was scheduled for surgery Monday night in an Allentown hospital. The series was not expected to issue another immediate update on his condition.

80-year-old drag racer dies.

MICH.» A longtime drag racer NORWAY, died after crashing his jet enginepowe­red car at a track in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

The Iron Mountain Daily News reported that Doug Rose, 80, died Friday night at the Norway Speedway. Rose, of Ringtown, Pa., crashed into a guardrail and flipped during an exhibition run.

Michigan Little League team stays alive.
