LOCAL OLD SPAGHETTI FACTORY IS CLOSING
The downtown Denver location will shut down Sept. 16, ending a 45year run in that area.
Spaghetti lovers have only a few more weeks to enjoy their favorite saucy, carb-heavy classics at The Old Spaghetti Factory’s downtown Denver location before it closes its doors on Sept. 16.
After a 45-year run in the same location, The Old Spa- ghetti Factory was unable to come to terms with an extension of its lease, which is due to expire this year, Ryan Durrett, the company’s marketing director, said Tuesday.
The restaurant is in the 1889 Denver City Cable Railway Building, and has been hailed by preservationists as a marvel of bricklayers’ skill.
The building — a reminder that Denver once had the most streetcar cable of any city in the nation — had to be saved by a wrecking ball by Historic Denver in 1973.
The Old Spaghetti Factory downtown, at 1215 18th St., was remodeled in 2010 and features antique lighting, stained glass and the signature old-fashioned trolley car that children delighted dining in.
Fans of the popular chain can still get their pasta fix at The Old Spaghetti Factory’s Westminster location, which opened last summer at 9145 Sheridan Blvd.
The company is aggressively seeking a new location in Colorado, Durrett said.
