Dog lost after mountain crash reunited with family.
COUNTY» A dog CHAFEE that survived almost three weeks in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains after being thrown from a vehicle in a crash has been reunited with its family.
The year-old canine — a Goldendoodle named Bentley — was lost when the vehicle it was traveling in slid off the edge of a mountain road west of Pueblo and plunged 600 feet down an incline on Aug. 7.
The crash killed Jennifer Orr of Wichita, Kan., and seriously injured her 21-year-old daughter, Samantha.
Samantha Orr returned to the crash scene after being released from the hospital.
Orr and others spotted Bentley early Saturday and captured on video the moment when they were able to lure the animal in with food and a toy.
KKTV reports the dog was malnourished and dehydrated but otherwise fine.
Lafayette may relocate prairie dog colony near solar garden.
Lafayette may have to relocate another prairie dog colony living on a city-owned property only weeks after a similar removal effort drew an outcry from activists and forced officials to scuttle the procedure.
The site is located east of Horizon Avenue, between Horizon Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard, city officials said this week.
“Any temporary removals will occur prior to the construction phase of a new, City-sponsored solar garden, and are being conducted to preserve the welfare of the prairie dogs while equipment is operating on site,” officials wrote. “Once the solar garden construction is complete, the animals will be allowed to return and reoccupy the original parcel.”
Officials eventually halted the most recent removal process and release the trapped rodents after residents complained the caged animals were left sitting out in the scorching sun.
That debacle sparked a conversation about whether the climate bill’s environmental protections reach beyond the effects of energy extraction to shield the removal of wildlife.
They point to the bill’s clauses stating a “healthy climate and life sustaining resources” are rights that should be allocated equally to both “residents” and “ecosystems.”
Leaders will decide what to do with both properties at their Sept. 4 council meeting.
