MAN SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS IN PRISON ON HIS 8TH DUI OFFENSE

COUNTY» A 45-year-old JEFFERSON man has been sentenced to five years in prison on a felony DUI conviction. John Charles Thompson was sentenced Monday after a jury convicted him June 28, according to the district attorney’s office. It was his eighth DUI offense.

At the time of the incident, Thompson was driving under a license that required an interlock device to drive the vehicle. There was no such device in the car.

Thompson had been released on bail for a DUI offense in another county when he was arrested in the Jefferson County case. He also is serving a threeyear sentence to Community Correction­s in Adams County, which was imposed in July.

The Jefferson County conviction is Thompson’s fourth felony conviction, prosecutor­s said. A presentenc­ing investigat­ion report reveals he has been arrested 23 times.

Security wands, bag checks on the horizon at Boettcher Concert Hall.

Hand-held metal detectors — the type used at courthouse­s, sports events and airports — soon will make an appearance at downtown Denver’s Boettcher Concert Hall.

The new security measure at the Denver Performing Arts Complex starts in September, according to a Colorado Symphony Associatio­n news release.

Security wand screenings, along with bag checks, will be undertaken at “select” Boettcher events next month. In October, patrons at all events at the concert hall will be subjected to the measures.

DNA connects large pool of blood near Dumpster to missing homeless man, police say.

A large amount of human blood found near a Dumpster in Aurora this month has been matched by DNA to a man who is now reported as missing, police said.

Eric Todd Ewing, 43, is described by police as homeless. He frequents the areas of East Sixth Avenue and Peoria Street, as well as East Colfax Avenue and Florence Street, according to an Aurora Police Department news release.

The blood was discovered Aug. 20 near a Dumpster in the west alley of an apartment complex at 142 Del Mar Circle, police said.

After the DNA match, Ewing has been reported as missing by the police. He is described as black, 6-foot-9 and 225 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

The circumstan­ces surroundin­g Ewing’s disappeara­nce are unknown, police said.

Illinois man, 60, presumed missing on Longs Peak.

A 60year-old Illinois man is presumed missing on Longs Peak after his family reported him overdue.

Jens “Jay” Yambert is believed to have started a hike to the summit at 2 p.m. Sunday from the Longs Peak Trailhead, according to a Rocky Mountain National Park news release. His family reported him overdue Tuesday night, and his rental car was found at the trailhead.

A possible route used by Yambert, who is from Urbana, could be Clark’s Arrow, park officials said.

Yambert was possibly wearing a black raincoat, khaki pants and hat, sandals and a blue-gray backpack, the release said. He may have been using trekking poles.

People who were on Longs Peak or Mount Meeker since Sunday and may have spotted Yambert or may have seen clues — including abandoned gear — to his whereabout­s are asked to call 970-586-1204.
