GIANTS CF DUGGAR GOES ON DL WITH SHOULDER INJURY

FRANCISCO» Giants center SAN fielder Steven Duggar has gone on the disabled list with a potential seasonendi­ng left shoulder injury a day after a hard, headfirst slide back into second base. While San Francisco’s medical staff was still awaiting MRI results, manager Bruce Bochy said the club won’t take any chances with the prized 24yearold outfielder. He wound up staying in the game and scoring the winning run in the bottom of the ninth of a 10 victory against the Arizona Diamondbac­ks.

Pujols likely out for season after left knee surgery.

Los Angeles Angels slugger Albert Pujols is likely to miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on his left knee. Pujols is batting .245 with 19 homers and 64 RBIs for the Angels, who are all but mathematic­ally eliminated from the playoff race for the sixth time in his first seven seasons with the club.

Red Sox starter Price leaves after line drive hits left hand.

Red Sox starter David Price left the game against Miami in the top of the fourth in ning with a bruised left wrist after taking a line drive back to mound to end the previous inning.

Price, who had been Boston’s best pitcher since the AllStar break, was hit by the liner from Miami’s Austin Dean. The lefty tried to depend himself, raising his arms quickly in selfdefens­e. He scrambled after the ball to the right side of the mound, but ended up covering first when first baseman Steve Pearce picked it up and tossed it over to him for the final in the third.

Injured starter Soroka will not return.

The Atlanta Braves have decided that righthande­r Mike Soroka will not pitch in the majors again this season as he recovers from an injured shoulder. Soroka will spend the next few weeks at the spring training complex and attempt to get back on the mound before the offseason begins.

Royals send 1B Duda to Braves for cash considerat­ions.

The Kansas City Royals traded slugging first baseman Lucas Duda to the Atlanta Braves for cash considerat­ions after their game against Detroit on Wednesday. Duda signed a $3.5 million, oneyear deal to take over for departed first baseman Eric Hosmer this season.
