The Open Forum Proud of Denver’s helping hand

- Re: Linda Childears, Gary W. Johnson,

I was pleased to read The Denver Post’s article “Lifting many burdens” detailing how Denver’s affordable housing fund temporarily assisted Monica Gallegos with her rent while she was unable to work due to a brain aneurysm. For those working hard to support their families, an unexpected setback such as this can turn their lives upside down.

As the CEO of a foundation which spends a lot of time and effort focusing on helping people reach and maintain selfsufficiency, I have seen that when a crisis hits, often times a small “hand up” can make all the difference in helping people recover and get back on their feet.

I am proud of Denver for implementing this program which can prevent citizens who need shortterm assistance from slipping into homelessness and I think the founder of our organization, Bill Daniels, would be too.

I wish Gallegos and her family all the best! views. Compare their views with their opponents. Email them and ask for clarifications. Go to debates, or at least read summaries of the debates published in newspapers. Utilize multiple sources of media.

Totally ignore 30 second soundbites. Totally! Yes, the current state of media is polarizing. Just remember, it is the voters’ responsibilities to analyze and evaluate. Even the most objective reporting possesses the author’s perception of events. It is the voters’ responsibilities to formulate conclusions. And finally, vote based on your convictions, your morals, and your beliefs.
