WOMAN SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR NEGLECT

A Colorado woman accused of leaving her 87yearold father on his bathroom floor for 36 hours has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Isabella Parker was convicted in July of theft, criminal exploitati­on and criminal negligence resulting in serious bodily injury — charges all involving an atriskadul­t.

Jefferson County prosecutor­s say the 48yearold Parker had left her father alone without food and water to go to Black Hawk to gamble with her boyfriend in February 2017. They say she also stole $13,000 from him.

Ben Parker was discovered by his housekeepe­r unable to sit up or move across the floor.

Prosecutor­s say he had an acute kidney injury, severe dehydratio­n, muscle breakdown and brain confusion. He died two months later.

Man shot, woman assaulted in Lakewood; police looking for assailant.

A man was shot in Lakewood on Tuesday afternoon and police are looking for the assailant.

The incident unfolded at about 1:15 p.m. with an argument between two people in O’Kane Park, West First Avenue and Teller Street, said John Romero, a police spokesman.

The dispute moved on to the 5300 block of West Fifth Avenue, where the man was shot. He was taken to a local hospital. His injuries are not lifethreat­ening.

A woman was assaulted during the incident. Police believe the incident was isolated, and there is no threat to the general public.

An investigat­ion is ongoing, Romero said, and police are working to develop leads on a suspect.

Man pleads guilty after allegedly assaulting, locking exnephew in metal container for hours.

A man accused of repeatedly assaulting his exnephew and locking him in a metal storage container pleaded guilty to three charges.

According to the Jefferson and Gilpin counties District Attorney’s Office, the 21yearold exnephew of Wynn Ray Sichting, 60, had gone to the man’s house to collect some personal items.

The exnephew was standing just inside a large metal storage container when Sichting started yelling at him, according to the DA’s office. He punched and kicked the 21yearold, pushed him into the back of the container and locked it.

Sichting pleaded guilty on Aug. 31 to seconddegr­ee assault, seconddegr­ee kidnapping and theft. He is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 11 and could face up to 12 years in prison.

Lawsuit over Thompson Divide drilling dismissed after deal.

SPRINGS» A lawsuit challengin­g the cancellati­on of oil and gas leases in the Thompson Divide area in western Colorado is over.

U.S. District Judge Robert E. Blackburn dismissed the case last week following a settlement reached this summer between the Bureau of Land Management and energy company SG Interests.

The BLM agreed to pay the company $1.5 million for 18 oil and gas leases it canceled in 2016 at the request of a coalition of government­s, environmen­talists, ranchers and others.
