Friday’s high temp ties record set 70 years ago
Heat records in Denver seemingly went on a fire sale this week, including tying a recordhigh temperature of 92 on Friday.
The recordhigh temperature for Denver on Sept. 14 — 92 degrees — was set 70 years ago, in 1948. The longstanding record was tied at 2:57 p.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
On Thursday, a recordhigh temperature of 96 degrees was tied in Denver, matching the previous high for Sept. 13 that had been set in 1895 and tied in 1990.
On Tuesday, the Denver highrecord temperature for Sept. 11 was broken, according to the weather service. The previous recordhigh temperature for the date, also 92 degrees, was set in 1951. Tuesday’s temperature in the city climbed to 93 degrees.
On Monday, the recordhigh temperature in Denver, 93 degrees, set in 1998, was tied, the weather ser vice said.
Overnight temperatures in the city have been unseasonably warm and one, on Thursday, was also a record breaker. The low temperature Thursday was 64 degrees in Denver. That set a new highestlow temperature for the date, Sept. 13, breaking the previous record of 62 set in 1927.
The heat is expected to sizzle through the weekend. The recordhigh temperature for the city on Sept. 15 is 92 degrees, set in 2000. The forecast high for Saturday in Denver is 94 degrees, according to the weather service.
Sunday’s forecast high temperature is 92 degrees and Monday’s is 91 degrees. A relative cool down is set for Tuesday, when the high temperature forecast backs off to 88 degrees.
“Hopefully, by the beginning of the week we will cool down,” said Natalie Sullivan, a meteorologist with the weather service.
There is a slight chance of thunderstorms in the Denver forecast on Wednesday.
