KOREAS COMBINE FOR 2032 OLYMPIC BID

» North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jaein said in a statement Wednesday that the countries planned to jointly bid for the 2032 Summer Olympics.

At a major summit, the two leaders gave no details of which cities might host certain events at the games, or how advanced the plans were.

The Internatio­nal Olympic Committee traditiona­lly does not announce host cities until seven years ahead of the games. That would give the Koreas until 2025 to put together a joint bid.

Sixers pick Brand as GM.

A source said the Philadelph­ia 76ers have made Elton Brand their new general manager, replacing Bryan Colangelo.

Brand is expected to be introduced at a news conference Thursday.

Heat’s Waiters still recovering.

MIAMI» Miami Heat guard Dion Waiters will begin this season as he finished last season — unable to play.

Waiters has not recovered sufficient­ly enough from left ankle surgery to be ready for the start of training camp next week, the team announced. Heat president Pat Riley said it’s unlikely that Waiters will be ready for the start of the regular season as well.

Twolves’ Patton out indefinite­ly.

Minnesota Timberwolv­es center Justin Patton has had surgery for a broken foot for the second straight year and is out indefinite­ly.

The team said that Patton’s operation on his right foot in New York went as planned.

Patton suffered the same injury, a fractured fifth metatarsal, on his left foot last year after he was drafted 16th overall out of Creighton.

Jordan donates $2 million after hurricane.

Jordan is donating $2 million dollars to assist residents affected by Hurricane Florence.

The former NBA star said the destructio­n caused by Hurricane Florence to his hometown of Wilmington, N.C., prompted him to act quickly.

Jordan told The Associated Press, “I felt like I had to act in a sense that this is my home.”

Sabres’ Sheary may miss start of season.

N.Y.» Sabres forBUFFALO, ward Conor Sheary is in jeopardy of missing the start of the regular season with what the team calls an upper body injury.

Coach Phil Housley said Sheary was injured while being checked during the first day of training camp Friday. Sheary is listed week to week.

The injury is a setback for the Sabres, who were counting on Sheary playing on one of the top two lines after acquiring the forward in a trade with Pittsburgh in June.

Italy recasts 2026 Olympic bid.

ROME» Italy’s threeprong­ed bid for the 2026 Winter Olympics has been reduced to a twocity candidacy featuring Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.

Following Turin’s exclusion, the Italian Olympic Committee is sending a delegation featuring Milan and Cortina representa­tives to meet with IOC leaders Wednesday.

The move comes after government undersecre­tary and sports delegate Giancarlo Giorgetti told the Senate that the threecity proposal “is dead.”

Beijing snowmaking OK’d.

Snowmaking for the 2022 Beijing Olympics won’t bring lasting damage to the environmen­t in the parched region of northern China, IOC vice president Juan Antonio Samaranch said. Samaranch said Beijing’s air and water quality are improving.

Sharapova done for 2018.

Maria Sharapova said she will end her 2018 season early, withdrawin­g from the China Open in Beijing, the Tianjin Open, and the Kremlin Cup in Moscow due to her recovery from a right shoulder injury.
