$25 “Dear Evan Hansen” tickets to be sold via digital lottery

- By John Wenzel

Tickets to bigname Broadway touring shows, such as “Hamilton,” are hard to come by in Denver. That’s partly because the shows are popular and critically acclaimed, but also because the Denver Center for the Performing Arts — which books and hosts these productions at its Buell Theatre — gives its subscribers first access to them over the public.

That makes sense for the DCPA, given that the tickets double as tools for driving subscriptions. But it also narrows the amount of generalaudience tickets available for nonsubscribers.

Never fear: As with “Hamilton,” there will be a digital ticket lottery for the upcoming production of Tonywinning sensation “Dear Evan Hansen,” which kicks off its first national tour at the Buell on Sept. 25 (and runs through Oct. 13).

On Friday, the DCPA announced details of the lottery, which will offer tickets for the relatively low price of $25 (vs. $10 per ticket for the “Hamilton” lottery).

The lottery is in effect for each performance, and begins 48 hours before each show, according to the DCPA. Entries will be accepted until 9 a.m. the day before the performance. Feeling lucky? Sign up at luckyseat.com/dearevanhansendenver, where you can also opt to get daily notifications via email. Winners can then buy up to two tickets at $25 each.

Tickets must be purchased online with a credit card by 4 p.m. the day before the performance using the purchase link and code in the customized notification email, the DCPA said. Tickets not claimed by 4 p.m. Mountain time the day before the performance will be considered forfeit.

Winners can pick up their lottery tickets at the Buell Theatre box office willcall window (1350 Curtis St.) starting one hour before the show with a photo ID.
