Officer with community college is arrested
An officer with the Red Rocks Community College Police Department was arrested over the weekend on suspicion of sexual exploitation of a child, Golden police announced Tuesday.
David S. Delaney, 28, was located Sunday at Denver International Airport, attempting to flee to Taiwan, police said. He was booked into the Jefferson County Detention Facility.
The arrest stems from an investigation of possible child pornography dating to July 3.
Delaney was identified as the primary suspect, police said, and Red Rocks Community College police immediately placed him on administrative leave.
Police said they moved quickly to apprehend Delaney at the airport because the U.S. does not have an extradition treaty with Taiwan.
“There was concern, since he’s been out of the country before,” Golden police Capt. Joe Harvey said. “We wanted to make sure we didn’t lose the ability to charge him and put him into the justice system.”
Police charged Delaney based on the evidence they currently have, but Harvey said the investigation could lead to additional charges. Delaney does not have a previous criminal record, police said.
Delaney posted $60,000 bail Tuesday morning, police said, and was awaiting a GPS tracking device. The court ordered Golden po lice to keep his passport, block his internet access and prevent travel out of the state without permission of the court.
He has worked for Red Rocks Community College since July 2017, authorities said.
The investigation is ongoing, police said. Anyone who believes they may have additional information about this case or about Delaney is encouraged to call the Golden Police Department tip line at 3033848034 or send email to crimetips@cityofgolden.net.
