SAN DIEGO ST. LOSES STAR RB WASHINGTON

-

San Diego State said junior running back Juwan Washington has a broken collarbone and is expected to be out for six weeks.

Washington was hurt in Saturday night’s home overtime victory against Eastern Michigan. The Aztecs (31) are off Saturday before opening Mountain West Conference play at Boise State on Oct. 6.

Washington has 560 yards and five touchdowns on 99 carries. The Aztecs were hoping he would follow D.J. Pumphrey and Rashaad Penny as a 2,000yard rusher.

His replacement, sophomore Chase Jasmin, has 244 yards and one score on 43 carries.

Washington also sat out most of the fourth quarter of a home win against Arizona State on Sept. 15. He said he was “banged up a little bit” after carrying 27 times for 138 yards and a score.

Maryland AD says he got bad information.

MD.» Explaining disPARK, crepancies between his initial version of the circumstances that led to the death of football player Jordan McNair and that laid out in an independent investigator’s report on the matter released last week, Maryland athletic director Damon Evans said he had been given bad information when he first met with reporters in June.

The report produced by Walters Inc., an athletic training consulting firm run by longtime athletic trainer Rod Walters, offered the most detailed timeline to date on the May 29 conditioning workout during which McNair suffered exertional heat stroke. McNair died June 12.

On page 66, the report states, “Information reported to UMD attorney, athletic director, and senior administration two days post event was not representative of activity and care on the field May 29, 2018.”

Walters said in an email that he simply noted what he had been told by school officials and referred further questions to Evans, Mike Poterala, the school’s general counsel, or Colleen Sorem, Maryland’s deputy athletic director.
