AT LEAST ONE DIES IN TRAIN DERAILMENT

CHEYENNE» Authoritie­s say a Union Pacific freight train crashed into the back of another freight train in southeaste­rn Wyoming, killing at least one crew member with another missing and derailing more than 50 train cars.

Lt. Don Hollingshe­ad of the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office said the crash was reported around 7:45 p.m. Thursday in a sparsely populated area about 18 miles west of Cheyenne.

Union Pacific spokeswoma­n Raquel Espinoza said Friday that 56 rail cars derailed but no hazardous materials were released.

Espinoza said both eastbound trains were hauling mixed freight but one was stopped.

Contrary to earlier reports, Espinoza said no other crew members were injured.

She said the crew members of the stopped train had gotten off their locomotive before the crash.

Two people wounded in west Denver.

A person was taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound in west Denver on Friday afternoon and a second shooting victim walked into a local hospital a short time later, police said.

The victim who walked into the hospital was shot in the leg, said Jay Casillas, a Denver police spokesman.

The shooting happened at West 14th Avenue near Federal Boulevard at about 2:10 p.m., police said.
