» The famiPHI L ADELPHI A ly of the late NFL star Junior Seau has settled its wrongful death lawsuit against the NFL over the popular San Diego linebacker’s 2012 suicide.

The confidenti­al settlement comes after the family opted out of the NFL concussion settlement covering more than 20,000 retired players. That plan pays up to $4 million to families of men like Seau, who were found after their deaths to have the brain deteriorat­ion known as chronic traumatic encephalop­athy or CTE.

Family lawyer Steven Strauss says the youngest of Seau’s four children recently turned 18. Seau was 42 when he died six years ago.

York Giants star receiver Odell Beckham Jr. may need to choose his words more carefully.

The NFL’s highestpai­d receiver created a stir Friday when ESPN released an interview from this week in which the 25yearold wondered why the team isn’t throwing the ball farther downfield and playing with more energy.

“How come we can’t throw the ball for more than 20 yards? How come we don’t attempt or try to throw the ball for more than 20 yards?” Beckham said. “Those are questions that we have to figure out, but for now I would say it’s our heart, it’s our energy. It’s what we bring when we line up before the game, all of that. It counts.”
