Chubb needs more work.

Broncos coach Vance Joseph would like to get rookie running back Royce Freeman more carries. The same is true at Cleveland, where coach Hue Jackson wants rookie Nick Chubb to get more attempts. Chubb has 10 carries for 146 yards, including 105 on only three carries last week at Oakland (touchdowns of 63 and 41 yards). “We need to do a better job of making sure that he has a series or two each half and go from there,” Jackson said.

Penalty story.

Teams have won nine games this year when they have committed at least 10 penalties. Kansas City is 20, winning at Pittsburgh (12 penalties for 76 yards) and at the Broncos (10 for 93). The Chiefs were called for 10 consecutive penalties last Monday. It should have been 11 but a delayofgame penalty was not called.

Wrong about Bengals.

We ranked Cincinnati as No. 32 in our NFL preseason power rankings, figuring the Bengals would finally bottom out enough that coach Marvin Lewis would be gone. Um, not quite. The Bengals are 31, have scored 34, 34 and 37 points in their wins and have six of their next eight at home. But the schedule is difficult. Their next six: Miami (31), Pittsburgh (121), at Kansas City (40), Tampa Bay (22), New Orleans (31) and at Baltimore (31).

Right about Bills.

We had Buffalo at No. 28 … and that may have been too high. The Bills have already lost games by 44 (at Baltimore) and 22 (at Green Bay) points, making their 276 win at Minnesota even more inexcusable for the Vikings. But coach Sean Mcdermott made the right move going to rookie quarterback Josh Allen. Playing is generally the only way to get better. Allen is completing only 53.4 percent of his passes and has been sacked 18 times.
