SEX OFFENDER MISTAKENLY RELEASED IS REARRESTED

-

Aaron “Jason” Dotson was supposed to spend 324 years in prison for sexually abusing multiple children, but last year he found his way to freedom.

Dotson was mistakenly released from Mesa County Jail on Aug. 5, 2017, and was rearrested on Thursday, according to the The Daily Sentinel. The cause of his mistaken release is unknown, according to Mesa County Sheriff’s Department.

Dotson was transferred back to the county jail after Colorado’s Court of Appeals granted Dotson a retrial for a 2012 conviction for sexual assault of minors and incest.

The court found that prosecutors in Dotson’s first trial had introduced irrelevant evidence about a nonsexual violent interaction with a minor, which triggered the retrial. The $250,000 bond given to him for his first trial was reinstated, according to the Sentinel.

Dotson never paid the bond and when the error was realized, he was rearrested.

While he was released, Dotson was wearing an GPS monitor and was under pretrial supervision.

Greeley police investigating early Sunday morning shooting.

Greeley police are investigating a nonfatal shooting on the west side of town.

The shooting occurred about 4 a.m. Sunday morning in the 1500 block of 88th Avenue Court, said Sgt. Jim Roybal, a spokesman for Greeley police. A man was shot during the incident, but his injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

The case had already been turned over to Greeley police’s investigations unit, Roybal said.
