Stop threatening entitlements

- Re: Sharon Blum, Martin E. OBrien, Thomas Caswell,

Mitch McConnell has promised to cut Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid to reduce the deficit that Republicans created with their budget busting tax cuts. Don’t even try to cut entitlements! I am entitled to my Social Security and Medicare. I earned it. I contributed to Social Security for 40 years and I pay $396 a month for my Medicare. If you want to fix Social Security, raise the cap or eliminate it. Trump is right about one thing: hurricanes have helped to raise the deficit. This is why we need to address global warming. It is going to cost us trillions to repair the damage caused by global warming with damage from wildfires, hurricanes, drought and flooding. But don’t anyone dare blame the deficit on Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

Ms. Kathy Taylor is correct regarding the numbing hypocrisy of Sen. McConnell when discussing the federal deficit. The only surprising thing is that he made the announcement before the upcoming elections, as well as making another attempt to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

I hope Democratic candidates everywhere add this to their campaign agenda. paying the toll on E470 when I used it last fall.

I assumed a bill would be sent to my home based on my license plate number. That was correct.

What I wasn’t aware of, and CDOT may not be either, is that the bill does not get forwarded by the USPS. I returned home five months later to discover the bill had been turned over to a collection agency for payment! I don’t recall if the envelope from CDOT stated “do not forward” or if it’s USPS policy not to forward government mail, but the net effect was the same. A total bill of $40, with toll, fine, handling charge, and negative impact on credit rating for having been sent to collections. It was worth $14.50 to use the road, but an additional $25 for poor procedures that are beyond my control and avoidable. This is beyond silly.

I now know how to pay online without a statement, but how many other first time users of this road have had the same frustrating experience? It seems to me, adding a line on the envelope from CDOT stating “Please Forward” would prevent a lot of headaches for visitors to Colorado.
