TEEN ARRESTED AFTER WOMAN FOUND DEAD

ELIZABETH» The body of a 56yearold woman was found by police Wednesday night in Elizabeth, and a 19yearold has been arrested as a suspect in her death.

Officers were sent to a home about 8:45 p.m. on reports of an attack and found the victim dead, police said.

Christophe­r Sander Leary, 19, who was at the scene, has been arrested. Leary appeared in Elbert District Court on Thursday. He is being held without bail on suspicion of firstdegre­e murder.

His next court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday. Police did not release the name of the victim.

Powderhorn resort getting new partner, investor.

Powderhorn Mountain Resort in western Colorado has joined up with a new management company and investor, and the collaborat­ion is expected to lead to infrastruc­ture improvemen­ts at the ski operation.

The owners of the 52yearold ski resort announced Wednesday they have entered into a longterm lease agreement with Utahbased Pacific Group Resorts to run the daytoday operations at Powderhorn. The resort also worked out an agreement with investment company ZOMA Capital in Denver as an equity partner.

The Daily Sentinel in Grand Junction reports that terms of the transactio­ns weren’t disclosed.

Officials say planned infrastruc­ture improvemen­ts include new snowmaking capabiliti­es and more focus on summer activities.

Zach Buchanan of ZOMA Capital said the organizati­on is set on making Powderhorn a better asset for western Colorado.

Body found in search for hiker.

BOULDER» A woman’s body was found in the mountains a day after a couple reported hearing a woman yelling.

Boulder County rescuers found the body just before noon Wednesday near the Fourth of July Trail, west of Boulder.

The coroner’s office will try to determine if the woman is the same one who was yelling, along with her cause of death.

A couple said they heard yelling Tuesday while hiking the Arapahoe Pass Trail. They were unsure if she needed help but called Nederland police.

The area received about 10 inches of snow during the search.

Officials said a woman’s car was found parked at the Fourth of July Trailhead. Carrie Haverfield of the sheriff’s office said the woman, whose name has not been released, is typically a day hiker.

15yearold arrested on suspicion of murder in connection to fatal Halloween shooting.

AURORA»

Aurora police arrested a 15yearold boy on suspicion of firstdegre­e murder Wednesday night in connection to a shooting that killed a man that day.

Investigat­ors are not releasing the teen’s name or photograph because he is a minor.

Aurora police responded to the area of East Montview Boulevard and Billings Street about 11:14 a.m. Wednesday to a report of gunshots.

The shots were heard by an Adams County deputy, who was in the area for a separate call.

He responded and assisted Aurora police and the victim’s family, Chief Nick Metz said on Twitter.

When officers arrived, they found an adult man with a gunshot wound. The man was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

The Adams County coroner’s office has not released the name of the victim.

The 17th Judicial District attorney will decide formal charges against the teen at a later date.

Grand jury indicts two for traffickin­g juveniles.

SPRINGS» A GLENWOOD woman charged with traffickin­g and prostituti­ng minors in Glenwood Springs was transferre­d to the Garfield County jail on Tuesday.

A grand jury indictment alleges Damara Hester, 25, and Dasjuan Goode, 30, transporte­d two juveniles in July 2017 to the Plaza Inn in Glenwood Springs and exploited the children sexually for money.

The hotel has changed ownership since the alleged crimes, and is now a LaQuinta Inn and Suites.

Hester is charged with 10 felony counts, including traffickin­g a minor for sexual servitude and procuremen­t of a child, keeping a place of child prostituti­on and contributi­ng to the delinquenc­y of a minor.

Goode was charged on eight counts.
