Is media speculation about jobs just mean? Poetry in motion.

Readers talk and columnist Mark Kiszla responds

Gossip vs. truth. You guys in the sports media disgust me. It’s one thing to be critical of job performance. I get that. It comes with the turf for any coach of athlete. But when you perpetuate rumors that begin in your “professional” circles, then write innocently and self-righteously as if you are just doing your job, you’ve crossed a line you’re too jaded to see. Whether it’s Demaryius Thomas, Vance Joseph or Mike Macintyre, it is plain you take great pleasure in spreading gossip about their job status. So let’s just pour it on and really expose the fact players and coaches are just commodities, with no heart, no soul and no care about their careers. Kiz: Players and coaches with families and feelings are treated like commodities by the pro teams and universities that employ them. That’s one big reason the Buffs would owe Macintyre nearly $10 million if they fire him. I have genuine empathy for families dealing with trade speculation regarding an NFL receiver who earns a $14 million salary. I have far greater empathy for families trying to make ends meet on the $15 per hour paid an Amazon warehouse worker. Keep status quo at CU. The next CU football coach? Former Louisiana State coach Les Miles would be an outdated and boring choice. The Buffaloes seem to be recruiting better, which is a plus for Darrin Chiaverini. As an offensive coordinator, Chiaverini is learning and needs to get better. I say give this CU staff one more year. Kiz: It appears Kansas saved CU athletic director Rick George from any temptation to hire Miles. If what Colorado wants is a coach who wins sound bites on the 10 o’clock news, the Buffs would be smarter to employ somebody more like the Pirate (Mike Leach) than the Mad Hatter (Miles).

Bringing back the rainbow uniforms symbolizes the period of re-energizing a new day after the rain. The Nuggets are in the dawn of something great happening. To associate this period with the greatest period of winning in franchise history is very appropriate. Who knows? Maybe we will win the Western Conference this time. Kiz: English has scored 25,613 more points in the NBA than I ever did. And English writes more eloquently than I ever could. But am I jealous? Not at all. OK, maybe a little green with envy. But definitely not jealous.

A deal for Von? Kudos for asking an unpopular question, Kiz. Should the Broncos rebuild by trading Von Miller? The problem I see is trading an NFL star doesn’t bring the same level of prospects as in major-league baseball. What could the Broncos get for Miller? If he’s (almost) 30 years old with a big contract, would it even be a firstrounder? Kiz: If crazy Jon Gruden could trade Khalil Mack for two firstround draft picks, shouldn’t John Elway be capable of doing better in a deal for Miller? How to decide. And today’s parting shot offers words to live by:

Here’s some good advice: If Kiszla says one thing, do the opposite.
