Honea says the list of names of those unaccounte­d for after the Northern California wildfire has increased to 870.

Honea says the additional 171 names came from a backlog of voicemails that detectives worked through Tuesday.

The blaze that started Nov. 8 leveled Paradise, destroying more than 13,000 homes.

Mike Pompeo said Tuesday the U.S. has “made clear” to South Korea that progress on disarming North Korea should not lag behind the expansion of relations between the two Koreas.

Pompeo said there’s “complete agreement” between Washington and Seoul on this, but his comments to reporters underscore U.S. anxiety over a potential disconnect with its close ally.

Pompeo said the U.S. and South Korea set up a working group to ensure they don’t “talk past each other” on their dealings with North Korea. Stephen Biegun, U.S. special representa­tive for North Korea, was holding the talks with his South Korean counterpar­t, Lee Do-hoon.

Puerto Rico seeks more funds, help from Congress post-Maria.

Puerto Rico’s governor is imploring U.S. Congress to increase federal funding and approve several measures to help the island recover from Hurricane Maria, saying that the U.S. territory is still struggling more than a year after the Category 4 storm.

Gov. Ricardo Rossello released a letter on Tuesday in which he asked the U.S. government to cover all costs linked to debris removal and emergency protective measures, declare the entire island a distressed area for tax break purposes and provide a tourism tax credit, among other things.

While he called Congress “an instrument­al partner,” he also demanded equal treatment for the people of Puerto Rico, who are U.S. citizens.

DNA links dead convict to 49-year-old rape, murder case.

ASS.» A convicted rapist M who died in 2001 has been identified as the killer of a 23-year-old Harvard University graduate student nearly 50 years ago, a Massachuse­tts prosecutor said Tuesday.

DNA evidence points to Michael Sumpter as the man who killed Jane Britton, who was sexually assaulted and bludgeoned to death in her Cambridge apartment in January 1969, Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan said.

Britton’s slaying is the third killing to which Sumpter has been linked since his death at age 54. — Denver Post wire services
