Army soldier has been arrested in the shooting death of another soldier.

Pfc. Isaiah Towns was being held on suspicion of second-degree murder in the Saturday death of Spc. Shakir D. Cook-Troynel.

Cook-Troynel and Towns were assigned to the 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs.

Cook-Troynel was 23 and was from Homestead, Fla. He joined the Army in 2015 and deployed to Afghanista­n this year. The Army says he received several commendati­ons including the Army Achievemen­t Medal.

The 20-year-old Towns is from Batesville, Miss. He has been in the Army for 17 months.

Man who shot, killed victim at sports bar is sentenced to life in prison.

COUNTY» A ARAPAHOE man who fatally shot a victim in the head, after being challenged to a fist fight at an Aurora bar, has been sentenced to life in prison. Miguel Angel Licona-Ortega, 24, was found guilty last week by a jury of first-degree murder in the 2017 shooting death of Javier Chacon-Ortega, according to a district attorney’s office news release.

After a four-day trial, the jury deliberate­d for about an hour before returning with a guilty verdict on Nov. 14. Arapahoe District Court Judge Andrew Baum immediatel­y sentenced Licona-Ortega to life in prison without parole.

Man sentenced to three years in prison for illegal marijuana operation in forest.

A federal judge sentenced a 25-year-old man last week to three years in federal prison for growing and intending to sell large quantities of marijuana, the U.S. attorney’s office announced.

Margarito Yepez-Sanchez, a Mexican living in the United States illegally, also received three years of supervised release for conspiracy to manufactur­e and possess with intent to distribute 100 or more marijuana plants.

Yepes-Sanchez was charged in September 2017, after federal agents discovered an illegal marijuana grow in San Isabel National Forest, the U.S. attorney’s office said. Agents found approximat­ely 13,800 marijuana plants and at least 120 pounds of processed marijuana on 12 acres of federal land.

Firefighte­rs put out small wildfires south of Denver area.

Firefighte­rs extinguish­ed two small brush fires that broke out south of the Denver area Wednesday morning.

Fire crews put out a small wildfire that broke out in brush near Colorado 470 and U.S. 285, authoritie­s say. Within minutes, South Metro Fire Rescue firefighte­rs were fighting a small, slow-moving wildfire near Hilltop Road and Village Road in Douglas County. The fire was out within 20 minutes, according to a second tweet.

Jury finds chiropract­or guilty of molesting 8year-old.

COUNTY» A jury has convicted an Aurora chiropract­or of eight counts of sexual assault on a child, including four counts of molestatio­n by a person of trust, authoritie­s say.

The jury also found Craig Martin Stice, 58, guilty of committing four counts of sexual abuse against a child by pattern.
